Motorcycle Lift ?
04/21/11 at 06:33:11

Neighbor was throwing out a recliner w/ a good working power lift built in. I turned it over, and was impressed w/ the heavy duty steel frame that houses this mechanism. And right away I'm thinking "powerlift" of some kind,.....yeah,.....motorcycle lift !
Anyone got any plans for such a thing,....or do I have to figure this from scratch ?  Shocked Grin

Sounds like an original Rube Goldberg concept. Youll need to figure it out. Ive had a hospital bed a guy gave me. All I wanted was the chrome handrails & the motors & mechanisms that raised & lowered it.. planning on windows in the hothouse,, being able to open & close them with the push of a button.
A  chair mechanism in a power lift chair Has to be stout. The chair itself isnt light & the kind of people who need  power lift chair are often flippin HUGE, so you should be able to build a bike lift, as long as you dont go tossing some 800 pound bike on it.
Might wanna look up the chair manufacturers weight limits,

POst some pics & Ill be happy to see if I can help any at all.

does the chair lift straight up?
or rotate to drop the occupant at a height?

If it's straight, simple, throw a piece of plywood on top and you're done.

If it rotates, then most likely there are 2 pairs of struts to control the motion.  Make them parallel and equal in length and you're done.

strip the chair off, give us a few pictures and we can suggest.

Would be neat....but so is a piece if 2x12 and a length of pipe and 2 eye bolts, instant 'lift'. And if you need the entire bike off the ground, you can add a scissor jack from the car!

NO! Ya Caint DO that! That would eliminate all the McGyverin,, what fun is there in that?? Doesnt matter if there 3 times the time & 2 times the $$$ involved,, gotta go with the engineering challenge, man,, Come ONN!

I'm not sure this project is going anywhere.
Like said, the geometry would have to be changed a little so it would lift straight up.
But the AC cord is missing, (plugs in) they said they would find it, but so far haven't. If not I'll trial and error the ac side, try to get it running.
I know this chair from '07 new,....it lifted a 350 lber (up yonder now) w/ ease, but it is very slow. I'd like to use it for something if I can get it going.
The pic ?...........to keep in practice !

I rode yesterday,....I'll fish today.

Well it's a good start.  When you can, give us a pic with it up.

You probably remember this...

Yep, I remember that,.....nice, except I was thinking more compact.
Actually it wouldn't be hard to build the geometry from scratch. I mite just pull the power actuator assy from this, and start a new.

I have had a regular motorcycle lift for some time,When I made the 2x10 I started using it all the time.Only takes about 10 seconds and your bike is in the air.

In the air ? Can you stand under it, and reach "up" for the drain plug ?? Grin
