How Much Power Available? (Read 266 times)

I don't think anybody here actually knows... I remember somebody using some heated something's, but I don't remember what.
I'm in Arizona, so I quit riding when it gets below 50'... (my blood's thinner than Kool-aid)...

You,... are nominated to figure this one out. It would be good to know.

You can disconnect the front running lights, and switch to an LED tail light for more juice... also, stay off the highbeam...
Bet you could run it then...

OK. I did not modify my bike at all except to add a 12 volt plug.
Last week I was riding near Anahim Lake BC and early one morning I climbed out of my tent to find frost on my bike (mid-July!!). I rode for a few hours using my new Gerbings heated jacket liner and glove liners and had no problem. They kept me toasty warm and the battery held its charge.
I think that as long as the engine is turning at a fairly high rpm, as when highway riding, the alternator can produce enough current to keep up with the current drawn by the heated clothing.

HID headlight conversion, led lights everywhere else. This should cut the normal load on the alternator by at least half.

Without switching everything to LED, I want to hook up 2 red lights to the brake light and 2 running lights up front on a switch so I can charge the battery for a while before I turn them on.
