It sounds like you should know this but just to be sure...

the ig switch has 3 positions, off, run, park, in that order.
in the park position, bike won't run and only the tail light works.

safety's, clutch, kickstand, neutral.
won't start w/o clutch pulled in
with kickstand down, and in gear, won't start.
lights will light though

With key on, lights will light, tank, headlight and signals.
If it's a connector under the tank or the handlebar controls, lights may not light, but tail light should be on.

If it's not on, check the ig switch connectors.

And the battery and the ground.  it's on the engine by the oil level window.

yes, even witht he "on" or "park" switch the taillights, headlights, signals or brake lights dont come on. im going to check the ig connections.

Check for frayed wires that could be touching metal as well.

Do you have a test light ? Disconnect hot side of Battery. place clip side of tester on hot side of Battery. then take the other side of tester and ground to bike frame . did your light come on ?  No check the ground side of battery to frame you have no connection . Yes then you go foward and start checking switches ... I will watch this post and help if I can

ok heres the update. i came home from work grab my key and switched it to "on" and it started right up? now im getting mad cause sometimes it starts up perfectly and sometimes it wont even light up when i turn the key.. honestly very weird. starting to think it wants to be perfectly fine at night then the day time.. ill see that happens in the morning.

thanks everyone i really do appreciate all the support i got, instead of getting replies like "use the search botton"  ill post pictures after i install my 12" apes. can someone really clarify that putting 12" apes you dont need longer cables? i read numerous post/threads saying you can and you cant. i need a solid yes or no. thanks  Cheesy

You need a 12v test lite ! Heres just another way,......
Connect the clip to a clean spot on the frame
stick the pos terminal on the battery (you better have lite)
stick the positive cable anywhere on down the line before the 1st plug (you better have lite)
Keep sticking on down the line on to the ign sw. (you better have lite)
It sounds like you're not getting juice even to the ign sw !

there's a green connector plug under the seat that has given me problems in the past. I don't remember if the lights, etc. were on or not , but it would sometimes start, sometimes not until i found the plug was loose

This happened to me with a Puch 175 Enduro and a Kawasaki H1 500.
I would take the seat off, crank it and tap on the ignition switch and wiggle all the wires you can see. Both times the insulation on the wires were about the only thing holding the wire to the terminal. Do this gently, of course, and your problem may cause the bike to go dead. AND I agree with the others about what to check. Now it's time to go rogue and hit it with a hammer.  Cheesy

One more thing. It could be the kill switch. I never use mine, but I ocassionally flip it off and on a few times in case it corrodes and acts up. Good luck.

Following the bouncing ball...

1st connection to the battery is the fuse box!  It should be hot all the time.
Since your lights don't light (sometimes) we'll follow that circuit.
2nd hot spot is the ig switch r/b. I think that red w/a black stripe.
when switched on, the orange is hot.  Orange goes around and around and comes out the speedo light.

Out the other end of the battery is ground.  the ground is connected to a bolt behind the oil level window.  All connections should be tight and clean.

Now unless your dog comes over and pisses on your bike every night just before you get home, I got no explanation why it lights up at night and not in the daylight.

So.... you did work on it then this issue started.

Since you have no power,  my semi-educated guess would be that the ignition switch plug got nudged too much and is loose.    Or,  the Ign switch is going bad.

What I would do it follow the wires coming out of the ign switch and reseat every connector up to the battery.
