Well, I bought the bike with the hopes of turning into a sweet little bobber and then selling it, so I don't think welding is an option. Plus, if I weld the sprocket to the shaft I'll have to open the left crankcase any time I have to replace a drive belt. But, then again, the gaskets are way cheaper than the friggn shaft!
I've already torn the engine down and pulled the shaft now though. I bought the 86 transmission b/c the part #s for the shaft were the same, however, what I didn't know is that in 95, the Savage become a 5 spd tranny instead of the old 4 spd. Fail. So now I have an 86 transmission for sale if anyone wants it. I'll cut you a deal since I just need to get rid of it. PM me. I'll post it in the market place too.
It appears that the Boulevard output shaft (main) is the right fitment for my 95. Found an 07 entire transmission for less than what a new main shaft costs on eBay. I'll probably go that route again.
If anyone has any idea about fitment, please let me know! I've had this bad boy for 2 mths now and still haven't gotten to fully ride it!
