Handle bar swap
04/13/11 at 20:10:08

So this weekend on the list of projects is to swap out the buckhorn bars on the girlfriends 03 to the flat drag style that came off an 06 (thanks sbaugz!). She tried riding my 05 and likes them much better. How hard of a job am I looking at here? Getting the controls off doesnt look to bad but not sure where to start getting the grips off. The left grip doesnt seem to bad but the right one with the throttle tube i'm not sure about. Any tips on how to do this would be appreciated!

Stick a screw driver in between the grip and the bar.
shoot a squirt of hairspray in there.
work the screw driver around, squirt as necessary.

on the throttle tube leave the grip on unless you're replacing with a new one.

on all of the bolts are plastic caps, just pry them off with a knife.

I let her ride my 05 S40 that has the flat style before we swapped, she said it felt alot more natural than the buckhorn bars. It only took an hour and a half to do the swap, probably alot faster if i had to do it again now that i know how it all comes appart and goes back together... ill post a couple pics tonight  Smiley
