Not good, because your key can now vibrate out while you are riding.... "Till you replace it,.. I'd recommend carrying it in your pocket while you ride. Try getting a new key cut, and see if that one works.If not you will need a new lockset.

I've been taking it out while riding. I need to get copies made anyway, I only have one key. Is it hard to find/replace the lockset? I'd like the key for the toolbox and helmet lock to match. I suppose a locksmith could rekey a new ignition switch to match my existing key.

It doesn't fall out that I've seen yet, although I'm sure with vibration it could. I discovered you can pull it out accidentally. I had the same thing on an 82 Datsun. It was really worn and you could take the key out with the engine running! But you still needed the key, a screwdriver or other keys wouldn't work. Worn tumblers I guess?

Because I would think both piece of metal get the same stress and wear out at same rate. Although a key is cheap enough to test with a new one before you go replacing the key lock.

My 79 Cutlass had that feature. And of course by feature I mean that it had a worn out ignition. It was great for warming up the engine/interior on cold days because I could take my keys out while running and lock the doors and go inside the house. On your bike though, that is not a good thing and not supposed to happen.

Do you carry much weight on your keychain? If you have a lot of keys or extra stuff that weight will wear down on your tumblers over time and lead to this situation.

Maybe a locksmith could pick it? I doubt it's a very high security lock. I've seen other posts on that so I'll search.
