Ditching the airbox
03/26/11 at 10:06:18

I'm planning to ditch the airbox and install cone/pod filters, but with a twist. I want to run a filter out to each side of the bike. Any suggestions/advice for doing this before I order my filters?

That trailer hitch set-up is pretty slick! I hate having to track down a friend with a trailer!

Thanks for the link.

I work in a plumbing supply house and we have so called double ells, which looks like two 90 degree elbows joined together at the neck making one inlet and then splitting into two in a nice curved 90 degree turn. Or a S40 pressure Tee. we stock them in 1 1/2" IP and 2" IP size. The only thing that sux is that it is white PVC. Those double ells are also called three-way ells sometimes.

Here is what I'm talking about: http://www.homedepot.com/Plumbing-Pipes-Fittings-Valves-Sewer-Drain/MUELLER-S...

Essentially 1 1/2" IP is 1.900" OD, and 2" IP is 2.875" OD.

Prime the plastic with Krylon in a very thin coat or two. Then paint it any color you like. For some reason Schedule 40 holds paint great, but put on several thin coats to make it last.

Right on. A friend suggested the Y PVC set-up to me too. What about rejetting? The jets have already been adjusted b/c of an aftermarket exhaust.

Hard to say without knowing jet sizes in there now. There is a chart in the tech section for jetting. It's possible that you don't need to rejet. Jets may already be too large for your breather. How wide open is your pipe? Extra airflow may be needed and jets may be okay as is. Change one thing at a time and keep up with where you are.

Thinking of losing the aftermarket pipe for a straight pipe. I have the jet #s written down but I left my notepad at the shop Sad

What about using a fan-blade within the pvc to create a swirl of air into the carb vs. a straight shot? Or would that possibly slow it down?
