Sportbike Exhaust?
03/25/11 at 16:04:11

Has anyone ever run a sportbike muffler on a Savage/S40?  If so, is there any benefit to using one as opposed to one of the more common replacements like a Supertrapp or Jardine?

I'm thinkin' it might look pretty bad@$$ to run a wrapped header into an upswept sportbike muffler....

Friend of mine told me he couldn't find a "real" Cherry Bomb for his truck 'cause they're not made anymore. I found them at the Maremont Company in Tennessee. They bought the rights, patent, whatever and now makes them. Their website shows at least one that is close to right ins. dia. for us. And they're cheap.

That guy jef.savage has what looks like a sportbike can on his savage.

A GSXR1000 muffler can be picked up pretty cheap, is way lighter than the stock Savage (or Dyna) muffler, and sounds badass on a thumper.  I'm about to hook one up on a DR650.

Thanks for the links and pics, all!  Looks pretty sweet.  So, is there any benefit over a Supertrapp or Jardine?  Back pressure, scavenging, etc?  Or is it all for the sound?

You can use a SuperTrapp to fine tune the jetting or the sound or both. And if you're considering a sportbike exhaust, then there are other SuperTrapp models you can get other than the Savage-specific long megaphone. The Universal Series (chrome or stainless steel) and Aluminum Racing Series (brushed or polished) come in versions with 1.75" inlets.

I have one of the stainless steel Universals on my other bike.
