Seat ripped, where the tutorial to fix

Hello Gang,

So this winter the elements finally got to my seat.
It's got a nice rip across the longest seam.

I recall there being a tutorial on recovering the seat.
I would love to find that.
Also is there a way to truly make it water-proof?

It rains a lot here in Oregon and would be great if the seat didn't soak up like sponge. I thought of plastic over the foam (kind of like it is stock) but that doesn't seam to work..

Special materials to recommend?

Making it truely water proof may make it suseptable to damage.
Putting a layer of closed cell neoprene would certanly do the job, but drag your boot buckle over it once and it'll be ripped for sure.

But you certainly could minimize the issue. A layer of neoprene covered by balistic grade nylon mesh would certainly do the trick.

Otherwise, marine grade vinyl is what's reccomended.

So I headed down to local fabric shop and got some marine grade vinyl.
$12.97 for a 36"x52" sheet.

Headed home and proceeded to tear my seats apart and put on the the new cover material.
About an hour for the rider seat and hour and half for the rear...rounder was easier than rectangle Wink

Thanks Guys and Ladies.

It was a fun project and much simpler to do than I thought.

I really like the new look and feel. Some of those curves had a ruffle or two that I did have to hide between where the seats meet.

No more having to wear rain pants just to ride to the store and back on those rare days of no rain. (my butt had a wet spot when walking in the store a few time Shocked

)

Ready for at least one nice day so I can get her all cleaned up and waxed again..."weatherized".

Looks like leather, I'm curious about the backing... has it rubbed or affected the paint/finish on the tank? I want one. And I noticed in your signature line 18,700 miles... is that still accurate? Have you checked your cam tensioner?

Babyhog,

Bib came with the bike, back is leather also. The eagle is showing on the tank when the bib is off when you look at it in the right light and angle. Although that I think is from the Armoral use over time.

I just updated my sig before I posted this thread, miles are accurate.
Had new Cam chain, guides and custom versalgen tensioner put in at about 15k or so. The guides were a little chewed up (still good I think) but I already ordered the parts so they went in.

I figure the tensioner/chain "should" be good until about 25k or I start hearing the Clicking/Tapping I did before.
Others thoughts on when that tensioner should be checked again?
