LS650 first impressions

Cheers all,
Picked up bike this morning and rode 25 miles. Gearing is more suited for my riding than my DR. Ride is ok. Love the backfiring, music to my ears. Have to get used to the smaller bars, steering is quicker. Very quiet drive belt. All in all, I think I am going to like the bike. It's as quiet as the DR and I really like that. Pretty happy camper.

The backfiring can be an indication of a problem.
A shift pow can be a loose header or muffler connection aka air leak.
A shutdown pow is a lean idle mixture setting.

Mine was backfiring bad at shut down and bogging down when i gave it the gas, i cleaned carb no help I put another carb on it after i tried to adjust the ar mixture screw, maybe you can the early years but not a 2004, hard lesson, New carb runs great backfires a little on shutdown on hot days, I just shut it off in first gear when i let the clutch out. Overall its an easy bike to work on.

when I first bought my bike back in 02, the back firing bothered me so I took it back to the dealers and they drilled out the brass plug and enriched the carb for me. Not only did it eliminate all back firing, my exhaust pipe at the header is still chrome bright with no bluing at all. Even with well over 40,000 miles. check to see if your running too lean.
