Twice this week I have been unable to get to neutral. After riding for a while I stop and try to set neutral. The gear lever seems to jump between 1st and 2nd. I have tried double clutching, driving around the parking lot and shifting up and down, and still it does not find neutral. All gears can be reached, but when trying for neutral I hear an extra click and feel the transmission seem to catch and jump. Even more bizarrely, I shut down, and come back a few minutes later and the problem has disappeared.

Is doom impending? Is there anything I can do?

Bike tranny's aren't like cars, they do that. They don't shift well at a stop. It's normal,... just takes getting the hang of...

All bike trannys balk at going into neutral at a standstill. Just the way that they are made.

If the tranny is still trying to turn because of a dragging clutch, it will be hard to get neutral......will want to jump back and forth between the 2 gears.

Thanks to all for your comments and advice, it made me think hard about things I should have paid attention to.

The problem, thankfully, was simple, as the clutch needed adjusting. The rubber boot at the lever concealed the problem, for when I lifted the boot the adjustment and keeper nuts were loose and spun freely. I have since adjusted them so that now the clutch action occurs at the beginning of lever movement, not at the end as it was doing.
