Looking to Purchase Brake Pads...
03/12/11 at 12:00:27

I'm due for my first brake pad replacement and somewhat unsure what to purchase. There doesn't seem to be much consensus on which to purchase.

I know harder pads equate to longer pad life and softer pads equate to longer rotor life. I also know that 'the kevlar cheapos from eBay' are recommended.

Essentially I want something fair priced that doesn't sacrifice safety/stopping power. Here is what I found.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-02-Suzuki-SV-650-Brake-Pads-Organic-Kevlar-...
-For $8 plus shipping they seemed too good to be true. Quality/size concerns?

http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=192649&store=...
-Saw these as suggested in a thread by Paladin, but haven't heard anything else on them.

Thanks for any input you guys may shed on this.

This is what I bought for my bike this year, I read trough the forum on brake pads and everyone seemed to lean towards Kevlar pads from flordia on ebay...: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUZUKI-FRONT-Brake-Pads-LS-650-Savage-Boulevar...

This is on my bike now, and would buy them again.
Even with 2 spares of another brand, I just might.
and they're on sale!

Verslagen,

If you can vouch for their performance they are as good as bought! Do you know what material they are made of? The ad simply lists them as organic.

I use EBC FA106X and they work fine. Can usually find them on ebay for around $21.00 usd with shipping included. Have used EBC on other bikes and have never had a problem.

To be absolutely sure, I'll need to check the box.  I won't be able to do that till tomorrow.  Organic covers a lot of ground.  Kevlar is a registered trade name.  As these are most likely made in china, who knows what it really is made of.  But they stop like stock brakes w/o the squeal.

I have used EBC's, didn't like them.  Required more force to stop.

I use Vesrah organic, because that's what my guy ordered. Organics grab a little slower and sintered pads grab or bite quicker. Mine work fine for me and cost about $28.

I've got EBC FA106's on the front of my '06 and they're coming up on 7500 miles with some life left in them.

I got them from bikebandit.com and got a nice 10% discount since I belong to the AMA: http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/

Just wanted to post a follow up. Verslagen, I purchased the pads you recommended. Installed them using the Clymers manual, took all of 20 minutes. I'm still breaking them in but coupled with the new Metzlers I had put on they feel great! A great deal at 16 bucks including shipping.  Cool
