This is my first time on this site, but I plan on returning. What a wealth of info.
I bought a 2005 s40 in great condition with 2000 miles locally (Seattle), and wanted to perform basic mods on it. I saw a performance upgrade kit on ebay, and bought it. I am pretty happy with the results, and learned a lot about my bike (and how carburetors work) in the process. For those who are interested, the kit came with new washers for the white spacer mod, cone air filter, extra allen head screws for the top of the carb (did not use them, reused original), new pilot and main jets, performance (minimmally baffled) exhaust, and drill bit/ sheet metal screw for removing the brass plug on the mixture screw hole. I have a link to pics, but I can't post it as this is my first message. If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to post the link.
I ended up leaving the side covers off, as it was easier (since the airbox was gone) and I do not mind the naked-er look. I repositioned the wire terminal box, that had been mounted to left side of the airbox, to the right side of the batter case, where the tools *were*.
The exhaust blows a bit on the rear brake cable, but I am not thinking it is a big deal. No bending, etc required. I re-used the original pipe clamp to secure the new slip on exhaust. Not pretty, but it works for me. Sounds great. The mounting bracket and the muffler bracket protrude out of the bottom, and I may trim those down.
Happy to post link to pics or answer questions. I intend on asking my fair share here, that's for sure.
