Brake rotor comparison

Even though the brakes on the Savage/S40 are merely okay, at least the rotor is relatively light — and lighter than the the one EBC makes.

As you can see, the EBC rotor has more material. I don't know why that is, since the pads don't rub there. Maybe it adds to rigidity or heat dissipation or something.

I have an old rotor off a GS550. It's about 50% thicker and 3/4" larger in diameter. It weighs 6 pounds. What a lump.

As a former owner of a '77 GS550, '78 GS1000, and 2 '83 GS110's, I can confirm that those discs were thick enough to serve as man hole covers!

I appreciate the research you are doing for upgrade brakes.  Horsepower is good, stop power is better  Smiley

The savage rotors are 4.7 mm thick
the GS550 rotor is 6 mm or so and 6 holes
GS450 is 4.7mm also 6 holes
and I think the GSX500 is 4.7 or 5 mm, problem is they are 5 hole
