Running problem

Hi all hope you can help me my 87 savage is not running right she has not been run for over 7 years so iv put a new battery new plug  fresh fuel cleaned the carb out cos the small jet was blocked  she will fire up but will not rev all she dose is cut out I also have 3 small black pipes on the carb that don't go any where  any help would be great cheers Chris

Two are carb vents,.... they connect to nothing, but loop up above the carb into the frame tube, under the tank.
The one on the throttle side goes to the back of the petcock,... it directs vacuum to open the fuel flow in on and reserve position..

vents...


vacuum...


Test your petcock... it's probably bad from sitting so long...

this is the same as mine the bike ran fine 7 years a go and was just left in my dads garage and now it wont rev up nothing has been ajusted just the bottom taken off to clean out the old petrol

Fixing yours is simple, clean the carb.

You might try seafoam, drain the gas out, and fill with seafoam.  Leave at least overnite, drain and pour into the gas tank.  petcock to prime and start her up.

Sounds to me like the diaphram that actually admits the air and fuel when the throttle plates are opened is not opening. Stuck plunger or bad diaphram. Remember on a CV (constant velocity) carb the throttle plates a simply a request for engine acceleration, acceleration is controlled by the vacuum signal operating on the plunger that is sealed by the diaphram. Raising the plunger admits more air and fuel to speed up the engine. When you crack the throttle plates only some air is admitted leaning the engine to the die point. Max

you say that the punger only move a few mm i thought it was ment to do that

You don't want to drain all the sea foam out,Try to start the motor to get the sea foam up in the carb. Just setting in the bowl isn't going to do to much.

Some of the euro states put a sleeve in there somewhere to limit HP.
Maybe you got one.

Well I got the plunger to move it was a bit stuck and the needle was covered in crud but with that all cleaned off she still won't rev up it's like there is to much air Being drawn in

That slide has to be clean, even fingerprints will hang it up.
And occassionally, that spring gets cockeyed.
Take the top off and check the rubber too.

No the plunger with the needle on it moves closer to 30mm from idle to wfo at max RPM. Max
