Loud front disc brake when engaged at low speeds
02/13/11 at 16:36:27
Sounds kinda like screech/squeal almost like there is buildup on pad or disc. disc looks pretty clean though...1900ish mi 2007 s40
Kinda bothersome.
Any suggestions ? Pads ? Maybe clean the disc rotor ?
Thanks in advance -
Christian

stock pads? get used to it. when they wear out just about any other pad is better. you could try putting some anti-seize on the back of the pads.

It's saying 'wash me you fool'
soap and water did it for me.
next time, get pads with Kevlar in them.

Folks thanks for the advice. I can only assume they are stock. I'll give her a good scrubbing and maybe she'll quiet down. If not I may replace/upgrade the pads.

My 09 came with pads that made all manner of ugly sounds and did not stop the bike any to well. Luckly they wore out in only 2,300 miles I replaced them with DP brand pads which make very little noise, stop the bike very well and at 6000 plus miles look just about as thick as the day I put them in. Maybe if you are lucky yours will wear out as fast as mine did.

If washing it off doesn't do the trick - give the rotor a little scrubing with 400 grit sand paper.

The stock pads on my '06 lasted about 3400 miles in stop-and-go traffic but they squealed like they were worn out from day 1. A set of EBCs from bikebandit.com are about $30 and thousands of times better.

Good question Chris, my 05 does this as well. I changed the pads last year for this reason but cheaped out and ended up with the same thing. LOL, mabey this year I'll put some good ones on and see if it goes away.

My ride is a 2005 LS650, customized with ISO grips, cone air filter, stage 1 jets, Jardine exhaust, solo seat, AM turn sigs, and a catseye tail light. Next year, custom paint job (hopefully)!

I've used EBC's and didn't like them although they did kill the squeal.
Got a set of an "X" brand from a fleabayer in florida, made with kevlar, stop like stock w/o the squeal and half the cost of EBC's.
