Here's another variation:

I was talking with LANCER about muffler options since he seems to know his performance stuff. If I remember correctly, he said shorty mufflers hurt power.

If I recall correctly, it's not so much about back pressure as it is overall pipe length and exhaust pulses.

I had a Dyna turn-out on mine. Loved the look but boy was it loud.
The freer flowing muffler gave me more response at the top end. I was on a ride with friends and we went to pass a car. Took my 200 lbs from about 50 to 85 before I realized how fast I was going. Zipped by my neighbor on his Harley.
Yea, I might have lost some at the low end, but Savages have so much torque at the low end, I never noticed.
Also, the turn-out kept the the soot from building up rear brake arm.

I did try that shorty muffler , it sounded very high pitched so i ended up baffling my pipe and cutting the muffler off at its thickest part , currently its basically a tip.
