I just bought a Flanders broom handle (straight) bar without knurls or dimples. Are the stock bars dimpled?  If so to what purpose?

The stock bars are not dimpled.
the controls are releaved for the wiring.
there are locating pins on the controls, ok to file them off instead of drilling the bars.
