Removing the fork protectors
01/07/11 at 11:13:25

So my new fork brace should arrive soon. I have the fork protectors and have been told they will have to be removed.
My question is does anyone have percise directions and pics to go along with how to do this?
Note I have some mechanical knowledge as I did change the oil and filter by myself.
Also would it hurt to remove these and ride the bike without them possibly before the fork brace arrives and is installed?
Thanks and hugs to all.. Smiley kim

Oh and I did a search on this particular topic. Nothing showed within the last year of how to do this. So if you do have the knowledge it might be good to place it there so the next person can find the information as well.. Hugs.. Kim Smiley

Here is how I did it. I took an exacto knife and cut them off. Just have to go easy so you do not cut you or the forks.

They sit in a groove cut in the forks. IIRC, I used a skinny little wood chisel. If you scratch the bottom of the groove, its no biggee, the brace is gonna cover it up.

I used a utility knife. Cut slow and keep going deeper and deeper then it will break off.

I've heard that a hammer and piece of wood can be used. Any of you know of that method?
I will try the knife method and let you all know how well that worked. Thanks for your advice.. hugs to all.. Smiley kim
