Rattle at higher RPMs
01/03/11 at 16:31:21

Lately I have been bothered by a rattle at speeds above 65.  It appears to be a true rattle, and not an engine noise.  The noise disappears as soon as I shut down the throttle, irrespective of the speed.  It seems to be coming from under the tank, but as with all noises, I cannot be sure.  I was wondering if it might be the speedometer cable vibrating against the tank.  Anyone have a similar experience?  Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Where is your throttle cable routed?

Maby the speedometer. Mine rattles. Will fix next time the tank is off. When you hear the rattle lay your left hand on it, if rattle goes away you got it. I had thought it was coming from the windshield.

Bingo.  I had the same problem.  There is a tech how-to on stiffening up those spring-loaded bolts that hold the speedometer in.  Replace the springs with thick pieces of fuel line or something like that.  I got lucky and only had to retorque the little nuts.

Ah,here it is..
