Posts: 297 Orange County, Ca Gender:	Fouled Pilot Jet 01/03/11 at 15:36:51 I switched to a K&N air filter and needed to change the jets so I took off the carb, looked in and apparently the previous owner seriously fouled up the end of the pilot jet. I can't get it out with just a screwdriver now. Any ideas? I can't afford a new carb

Not your question I know, but what makes you think you need to change jets ?

IMO, if it was running good, and all I did was changed the air filter,....or even removed it completely, I would not change anything. The OEM air filter is quite free flowing, and there will be little ...or no change in the air fuel mixture by going to what mite be a less restrictive filter.

If there was any difference, it would be at WOT only, so seems to me that the main jet would be the only one involved.

I think option 1 is to make sure it's clean and not clogged.

Option 2, since you're bound to replace it and throw it over your shoulder anyway, use Lancer's trick and open it up slightly.

Option 3, R&R with a bigger size (get same size just in case).
Now to do this I'd get the small impact driver from harbor freight. And modify the tip to fit the jet and cut the end so it's chisel like and will dig into the jet as you wack it with a hammer. Cut it half and half so that the flat is on the driving side kinda like a drill.

Yes for all 3 options you need to take the carb out. oh the horror. Grin

I'm going to try an easy out tonight, hopefully it works, but if not the left handed drill bit sounds like a good idea.
