I think more than one bought this Tach and liked it. You will find the thread in the search here. But I had trouble linking it to here.

But after re reading your post, you probably just want a tuneup tach. I have seen them talked about here,.....somewhere.
Try this,......

If you're good at wiring, it's literally a piece of cake. It's just 4 wires. You splice into 2, one is ground and one is +12V. There's a write-up in the tech section about it, which I followed, well only for which wires to tap into, and it worked out great. I have the same one as in the pic, except it's white with black numbers and blue-lit at night.

I solder wires when I have to splice them, on trailer connections & anything on a bike. We ride in the wet sometimes & we vibrate a lot. Soldering is easy. Liquid electrical tape & electrical tape & heat shrink tubing belong in the kit, along with a paste flux & 60/40 resin core solder.
Instructions if you want.

I use a tach for diagnostic purposes only. Here is the one I use:
- ENM tach Model PT15B2 (includes hour meter)
http://www.enmco.com
Picture:
I've got the wire wrapped around the spark plug wire, with the free end tucked away.
When I need to set the idle speed, I just hook the tach up to the wire and set the idle speed. When I'm done, I disconnect the wire, tuck it back away, and put the tach back in my drawer.
IHTH!
