You can buy some really nice looking ones that are adhesive. I used to get alot of comments on mine. It fit just perfect under the speedo and has never began to peel off. I have to learn how to post some pics. I've been coming here for 5 years at least.

I still have a few questions if anyone can help:
1. do you recall the what temperature was when you installed yours? (summer or winter)
2. did you prep the tank with any special cleaning solution
3. remove any wax
4. lightly sand the area for better adhesion
5. use a heat source to heat thwe tank and protector prior to placement
if there are any other tricks of the trade so to speak that you can share i would appreciate it.
hoping to put it on the tank this weekend temps in the low 50's & 2 weeks since I painted the tank.

If I wanted one, really, I think Id probably build it with a pocket or 2 & a map holder on top. Id start with a heavy but soft cloth & lay out a template & build me one. You do have a sewing machine, dont ya?

I am refering to (in my case) a clear stick on (glorified decal) that sticks to the tank to protect the paint from scratches....the big yellow coat zipper had done a number on the old faded paint - so I painted the tank and got the protector to put on it $15.99 at cycle gear store.....Jr (my son) had one put on his new R6 when he bought it a few months ago and he said his peeled off (dealer installed).......I dont want to do this but once hopefully so any one who has done it to a freshly painted tank please speak up if there are any tricks or speacil prep I need to do. Here are a few samples:

Ahh! Then have a look at the clear applique from the car parts house, a-zone or whatever. Theres a clear stick on that goes behind fenders.

I washed my tank is all. The adhesive so far has not peeled back in 3 years and it does add a lot of protection to the tank. Washing the bike has no effect on the protector coming unglued. They come in different colors and patterns. I think I paid like $14 for mine.
