Consolidated cam chain tensioner thread?
12/04/10 at 14:04:56

I don't know how many total threads there are on the subject, but clearly more than the 100 limit of the search engine.

So I saw something on one of the tensioner threads and failed to bookmark it. Now I can find just about everything except that one thread. Seeing as how this is a major issue, wouldn't it be good if there were a single source for all relevant info -- at least the stuff about determining if you have a problem and how to fix it?

In the meantime, how many millimeters can the thingie stick out of the the other thing before it becomes a problem? I know there was a post about it, but...  Undecided

Question:  have you even read the index at the top of Tech Section?

Ah, well there you go. My problem was I was searching "cam chain tensioner" rather than "cam chain issues."

18mm is the recommended limit, at 22mm you're pushing your luck and probably need to replace the tensioner assembly as well as the chain and guides.

For reference, that's from a '96 with 8757 miles. The measurement is a little more than 17mm.
