My dogs favorite treat is beef jerky, but it's a little on the pricey side ,so I decided to make some,I got a 2 pound of London broil and had at it. it is in a warm oven as we speak, will be ready in 7 more hours,So far so good it smells great, and if it works out pretty cheap jerky ,I bet you guys do it with game don't cha ?

I have a dehydrator that we make deer jerky in.  Yummy.  And I've found some of the best marinades at the dollar store!  Dang mick, you've got me wanting some jerky now.  Let us know how she likes it.

I make mine in a dehydrator too, but simply use hamburger.  It is fantastic and you can't tell the difference between using hamburger and using steaks, consistency is the same

I think it was a fairly common method of preserving meat back before refrigeration.

they say the mongol horde put their raw meat under their saddles - after a week or so it's nice & tender, flat and preserved with horse sweat -- YUM!

Jerky is just the low-fat component of pemmican, one of the Native American methods of preserving food.

As for the term "Native American", it's pretty much interchangeable with "Indian" (or the Canadian "First Nations"), at least according to my Apache consultant.  Since the Sikhs, Muslims and lower-caste Hindus of the subcontinent have their own techniques for preserving meaty foodstuffs, it seems N-A avoids confusion.   Wink

When my son was growing up he liked jerky better than candy. Use to make it all the time.

My ex is a big turkey hunter, and every year he makes some turkey jerky. I don't care for it but seems everyone else does
