Amount of Amps Put Out?
11/17/10 at 14:10:44

So I checked my service manual and all I see for the electrical system is the battery which is listed at 12V. I need to know how many amps the bike puts out altogether. I want to wire in my Chatterbox into the battery so it charges while the bike is running (The battery on it is terrible). Thanks.

Charge your what?   Huh
You did see the Mr and Mrs potato head commercial?
And you need to prolong that joy after you put your helmet on?
I wouldn't worry about the draw on that thing.

Search Chatterbox USA, its a communication system for riders so we can talk between us up to 5 miles apart. Would I be correct in assuming the bike puts out 8 amps?

battery is 1000ma and is good for 10 hours.
The draw is 100 ma not 8 amps.
Against the head light you won't notice it.

whats the load(draw) of your device..

my largest add on load is a amplifer rated at 3 amps..

only time i had trouble was with the oem 2 year old battery and i had the music goin for 1/2 hour with the bike off...had to buy a new battery that day...

P.S. have never seen a true (non guess) rating for the ls 650 charging system.

(2 ea 20 amp fuses on the bike)
my guess  20 amps  X 12 volts= less than 240 watts( ckts are fused at 125%  so 80% of 240w =192 watts)

to charge the battery the
charging ckt only needs to put out 13> 15 volts @ .75 amps
15 volts at 3/4 amp = 11.25 watts

there was a member here some time ago (savage greg?)was a sharp cookie bike mechanic had a meter where he tested the alt. output...
his test results may still be in the tech section somewhere...

its a shame the talent that has left this site B cause of a few A holes
who want to use this forum for their own geo politico relgio athito rantings.....

I just need to know how many total amps the bike puts out. I am wondering how many accessories I can put on the bike. The draw is 10 amps from the device.

Don't quote me, but 17 amps rings a bell.

On edit, thats impossible.

10.27 Amps/210 watts at 5000 rpm w/14.75 volts
This is the calculation for a three phase alternator

10.3 Amps/210 watts at 5000 rpm

Where did the 10.3 come from ?

210 watts divided by 12v = 17.5 amps,.....I was right the first time.
But then, it should really be divided by about 13.5 charging volts, which would bring it below 16 amps,.......and then lower the R's to a more average 3,000, and the amps will be less too.
