Hey Routy

I'd like to instal a set of the 6" controls you have but, I have an 86 model. I was wondering why the controls won't fit on the earlier bikes. Is there a way i can come up with any type of "adapter" for the kit?  Huh

Thanks

Tim

Got my FC's mounted up today. If you are considering FC's for your bike, this is definitely the way to go.

I honestly can't believe the difference these things have made in how the bike fits now.  Super product, great service, and really easy to communicate with Rich.

Do yourself a favor and get a set.

Could not be more pleased. Thanks Routy.  I will try and post some pics this week.

Tim,
I don't know that all 86'ers are the same.
What I do know is this,.......
If your kickstand mount is seperate, and bolted to the foot peg mount w/ 2 bolts, it will not fit correctly, nor will it look right because there is a large hole that will show for no reason. Also there is a problem w/ the kickstand spring anchor, and another hole needs to be drilled for the kickstand.

On the other hand, if your kickstand is mounted into the same casting as the left foot peg is mounted in, then these FCs will fit.
There are 2 guys that were on the forum here that did make them work, but neither were happy about the mods they had to do.

I can post pics of the differences if necessary.

Thanks for getting back to me Routy:

Could you post the pics? I think it would definitely help in clearing up the matter.

Much Appreciated

If looks anything like the parts on the plywood, they won't fit.
If it looks like the mount in the large pic, then it will.

Thanks for pics Routy; I'm more of a visual guy so the last post definitely cleared up my questions . Bummer though... looks like the controls will be a no-go on my 86. I'm pretty mechanically inclined it's just that my welding skills are lacking. I'm gonna try and have my uncle give me a crash course in welding and possibly even a little hand-holding in the process of  coming up with my own controls. Gonna be a project for the winter though.

Tim,
Sorry they won't work for you, but better to know it now, rather than later.

Good luck on making a set. Just remember that is a brake control you are modifying on the right side, so be sure parts are welded soundly.
If you would be satisfied w/ 4-5 inches, you might be better to build a set like Ed L's, which I believe doesn't require any welding. But don't quote me on that.

I got my controls in today, and had them installed in about an hour. Awesome work Routy! I am only 5'6" and the six inches is absolutely awesome! Will take just a bit to break my 12 year old habit of wear the pegs use to be, but man does it ever make the bike feel like a caddy vs a mini coope lol.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't remember who the 5'6" guy was, but glad they worked out for you.

I left a PM, but it has been known to not be real dependable lately.

You may want to email me at RJsfishin@yahoo.com

hey Tim and Routy i have a set on my 86 and yes i had to modify them but it only took me 10 minutes if that to fix and as for the hole is does not look bad or even stick out

To drill the hole for the kickstand i simple took two bolts and nuts and bolted original plate to the back of the new one then drilled a hole for the second bolt.

once i had the new controls on and the kick stand bolted on i simply put the spring up to were it looked like it was in a good spot to work and not be interfere with the kick stand or get hung up then drilled the hole in the plate while it was on the bike it really was not hard and it is totally worth it as my son is well over 6 feet tall and has been riding the bike every day in two months he has put on over 2900 miles LOL

thanks again Routy best investment since i bought the bike
the only problem now is that i can not get on the darn thing as it is never here LOL

kritchie,
Thanks for the feedback on the FC fitment on an '86 model.
I don't remember the names of the 2 that  installed them on '86 models, but for one it wasn't too much of a problem, but for the other it seemed to be a big problem, and he was quite upset. But my offer to take them back......including shipping was declined.
So as it stands from your feedback, I can only offer them to 86 owners on a ........"you are on your own basis" along w/ a return.......minus shipping charges..
Thanks again for the feedback.
