Rebuild advice - Piston kit available?

I have my no compression project savage engine broken down. The piston and cylinder head bottom were pretty thrashed from a broken valve. I found a cheap used head on eBay. The seller says that the head is in good condition except for some light scoring that needs to be smoothed out on one of the bearings due to a tight cam fit. I'm hoping the head I found is something I can salvage to get this thing running. The cylinder appears to be in good condition with no noticeable flaws. I can't feel any wear on the upper wall. I need to get it measured for wear and a bore job. The manual I downloaded on this site has been a great resource.

I have read an old post talking about a replacement Wiesco piston. I can not seem to locate a place where I can buy a piston kit for the savage. Please let me know if someone has any knowledge. I'm hoping I'm on the right track to get this running. My only rebuild experience is with an old  2-stroke YZ.

Thanks, very informative post. I didn't know about interchanging the DR650 piston. i might go with a Wiseco.

Should I be concerned about buying a used cylinder head with a scored journal?

This is how you fix scored journals.

the wiseco is the dr650 piston. Common piston pin between the two for a few years in the early 90's. The wiseco has the savage on its site but its under dirt bikes and they have the bore/stroke info wrong. You MUST bore at least 1mm over for the wiseco since 95mm is the smallest they offer for us.

You used to be able to get .5 and 1mm kits from suzuki but Im not sure anymore. I went the wiseco route with no complaints. Its stronger, lighter, and adds the comp boost.

Eh. I go back and forth. Funny enough the bike SEEMED to run a bit better and pop/sputter less with hi octane in stock form. Now its vica-versa.

Verslagen,
I have a used head (2001) with scored journals.   Lancer already has the cam.  Interested?
