Stuck Cylinder Head!
10/28/10 at 10:20:25

I'm in the process of tearing down my project Savage. I can't seem to get the cylinder head unstuck from the jug. I know i have all the bolts removed but the thing won't budge anywhere. There seems to be an excess amount of Black sealant in between. Is this normal to use sealant instead of or with a gasket? I have read about a lot of cylinder head leaks with this bike. I'm afraid I'm going to damage the head or cylinder jug. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Not to be insulting, but did you get the two nuts on the jug side up from underneath?   (the kinda hidden ones)

They tend to get ignored by someone looking down at the engine on a work bench.

My mistake! It's actually the cylinder head cover that I'm trying to get off first! Still can't get this things to budge. I'm afraid I'm going to damage the head or the cover if I use any more force.  Angry

Ya got two "hidden" screws inside the rocker arm cover holes that you have to take out -- they are hidden underneath the covers.

be carefull putting them back especially the one down a deep hole ,that is the one that tends to leak oil if you don't use a new seal.
the next thing I would do is buy a manual.
