Longer Head Cover Bolts
10/25/10 at 09:49:31
A while back there was a thread about stripped head cover bolts, the long 6mm ones on the clutch cover side. The rear one is a L130 and the front one is a L125. My L125 was stripped from PO and what I did was ordered me a L130 and went to work. Since I have no 6mm tap that long, I took the bolt and filed cutting grooves on the front like a tap has and put it in with about a couple of turns at a time until the bolt was all the way in. I checked with a needle file in the hole and it is just deep enough with about 1/8" to spare. If you do it carefully and don't push too hard it'll work like tap. After about a couple of turns, remove the bolt and blow out the shavings. This is important. Also remove shavings from the bolt. And use a little oil, don't do it dry. So the 5mm longer bolt will fit.
