We commonly use stock Hurley take off pegs as emergency replacement pegs on the Dragon Week runs, and yes they must be drilled out.
I bring 4 replacement pegs and a road rash first aid kit to every Dragon Run.

Careful, I wouldn't use any grips with metal in them.
lets the vibes come thru and aggravated a case of trigger finger with me.

I use my savage for around town and back and forth to work, about 5.5 mi. each way so I don't get alot of long term vibration time,we have a 1300 VTX for longer rides. boy you can feel the difference betwen the two.

Take out the mounting pin, walk over to your American or metric drill bit set and pick the next size up from the pin.
Be willing to tear up that bit
, Hurley pegs have very hard and tough chrome coating and hard steel to cut through, and you are putting the entire load on the very corner edge of the cutting surface.
(which likes to dull, chip and grab on you -- breaking the corner edge off the bit is common)
If you are using a drill press, clamp the peg down so when it grabs it will simply stop the spindle. Use a very light feed rate so the grabbing won't be so severe.
If you are trying to free hand it with a hand drill -- good luck.
Use a good bit of heavy grease when installing the raw drilled hole part --
it is going to rust eventually on the pin
, but you can prevent that for a while with a liberal dose of heavy grease.

If I remember correctly (and I am on the edge of senility), it is 7/16.

I never even noted the size -- it was the tightest next size up in either set. It made no nevermind to me as the size of the thing as I knew it was a metric pin and I was matching to it with available bits.
I remember getting to sharpen that particular bit twice to do the 4 pegs though.

If youre having problems getting your bike on a trailer, then do install some HD parts on it. Then itll want to be on a trailer & wont fight against trailerin up ever again.
