Anyone know about putting a turbo on a ls650
10/20/10 at 22:03:51

I have a 87 savage ls650 and i was thinking of putting a turbo on it, as far how to hang it and run the pipes i have a pretty good idea of that but what worries me is can the bike handle it, and if anyone know where i could get upgrade parts to help build the little thumper up, dont get me wrong i love my bike and it gets me around but i am a bigger guy (6'3" 280lbs) i dont want to get rid of my bike just give it a little more umph so any adivce, tips, or tricks would be greatly appreciated  Smiley

If youre just that good a mechanic, go for it. But, you might come out ahead to put a cam in it & hang a Supertrapp on it ( or whatever the real hot rodders suggest) & swap the carb out. Ill bet you could do all that & still have $$$ in your pocket compared to the turbo idea. Put a fork brace on it, for sure. No need to pick up the pace unless yer gonna pick up the handling to accommodate it.

Be a lot easier, and probably a lot cheaper, to just trade for a used 600cc sportbike. Then you get braking and suspension upgrades, too, and the factory already sorted out most of the performance issues.

There were several factory turbo bikes produced some years ago, and even the factories never got the turbo lag issues sorted out.

Yeah it would be better to go with the cam carb and supertrap  I was thinking that a turbo would be a cool idea to have a turbo thumper and as for the sport bike idea I may give it some thought to thanks guys and also do you have an suggestion on what carb qnd cam to go with if I go that route

For all your cam & carb needs, we have Lancer.

I suggest a fork brace for even the most mild mannered riders. Certainly for someone who has the thing so loaded up as to need more power, Id sure think youd see a "sure footedness" you havent seen before.

I've been kicking the same thought around. Sure there are better suited engines but that's the point. Actually as long as the bottom end is strong enough the engine is perfect in that the single puts out big quantities of air and it's low compression. Most of the small turbos require liquid cooling which presents another challenge. You may be able to use the LS oil system with a radiator or there are even computer systems that have 12v pumps. Here is one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORCYCLE-QUAD-RHINO-Turbo-BIKE-SEADOO-Small-...
or the TD02 or TD015 Mitsubishi's.
