Another question...
10/13/10 at 15:15:55

I don't have a clymers manual yet so I have to ask another question. I'm trying to take off the forks to paint them, but I'm stuck with the front tire. How do you get it off? Just from looking at it my first instinct was to go after the bolt on the opposite side of the caliper but looking at it, well I don't know if that suckers supposed to move! It won't budge!

There's a pinch bolt, loosen that 1st.

But, before you take the wheel off, take the caliper off and tie it up.

And eyeball the spacers so you know which side is which... the disk side has a flange against the fork.

And depending on how far you go... might be a good time to change out the fork oil.

Noope,... he meant, yes to all 3,...

You're still 'effed.... Huh...

If you have an impact wrench,.. you might be able to wedge a flat blade bit in there, and tap it out...

yes to the torx bit, go to a harbor freight to save some cheese.  tap with hammer and you may be in luck.  Push in as you twist...then go get the extractor if you fail.

The torx bit was promising, and then it failed. Went to harbor freight and got an extractor set, and that failed. Now the opening to the bolt is nice and round  Smiley  I guess I need a bigger extractor. I'll try again tomorrow, I'll move on to the tank for tonight  Embarrassed

This has turned out to be the bolt from hell. I still can't get it out. Don't know what to do anymore. Should I just drill through it?

You need a tire today? Maybe you could put some penetratin oil on it & spend some time messin with it, tapping on it, oilin it, maybe even ride it up to a machine shop & see if someone has an idea or would help out & not charge a lot. Maybe a welder could weld onto the head of the pinch bolt, WHICH you need to buy before you finish wrecking the one you have.. Sklow down, take a breath, think this thru & youll get more riding time in.
