Walk-in fun work

A neighbor in our apt complex brought his bike in today for a little basic maintenance.  Its an 83 Kaw Spectre 1100 w/ 18k on it.
For being 27 years old this is a beautiful bike.

I still remember the day I rode home from the W Covina, CA Kawasaki dealership on my brand new 1974 Z-1. I owned the world that day. Cool

Good thing you didn't keep it, 'cause it's a mess now...

I mean the world, not the bike... Grin...

Have not ridden it yet.  The battery needs to be replaced and the tank has some rust that is concerning.  I hate to think about taking the tank off but may have to.  Ive got the stuff for it and would be doing dome of my tanks at the same time.  The chemicals to remove the rust and then seal the tank has a short working time (the sealer is the issue)
We are replacing the shocks and doing an oil change.
After all is done and back together I WILL BE TAKING A CHECK RIDE FOR SURE.  I was amazed at the condition of the bike.  Most of the paint still has the shine of a new bike.
James, the current owner, bought it 5 yrs ago from the original owner, and he kept the bike in a climate controlled garage and was a clean freak about caring for it.   Enen the photos I took were with all the dust that has accumulated over the last 2 yrs that it as sit in storage.

I would not  mind owning this bike at all; beautiful black/gold paint scheme, gold engine cases,  nice straight up sitting position and 1100 cc of pavement ripping power.
It would be a very nice 2 up ride; the seat is pretty darn comfortable.

Dust it off & park it in a car/bike show.

My bike before my 02 Savage was a 1981 Honda 400 CM. I bought it around the year 2,000. It had 900 original miles on it and I bought it for $400. I don't understand how someone can buy a bike and after 27 years it only has 18,000 miles on it. A lot more fun to ride them than to just let them sit in the garage and go out and look at it once in a while. why even buy one?

I didnt mean "& Leave it there"

I just got an 87 Ford F150 Id consider showing. Its got a couple dents & stuff, but by & large, for an older truck, its lookin pretty danged good. But it has a job & that is, haul me & whatever I need hauled.
