Solenoid and rectifier
09/24/10 at 12:42:50

Hey guys,

It's been quite a while since I've been on here. I'm in the middle of the bobber transformation. I just got the rear fender taken off and I'm not sure wear to mount the solenoid. I'm gonna mount the rectifier using the existing holes where the fender used to be attached. I can mount the solenoid to the frame, but I was wondering if you guys had any better ideas?

Someone recently posted a picture of the unit mounted to the right side of the battery holder. It made for a neat package. Just keep it out of the acid fumes!
I believe that the solenoid is mounted to the fender as a heat sink. I have often wondered about mounting it to a large CPU heat sink with thermal grease much like a computer.

I put my rectifier down on that flat spot on the muffler bracket. Looks like it was supposed to go there.
This was from awhile back when I had first mounted it.

Edgar,
I found a good spot for it if you aren't using your rear fender, it's really easy to relocate too. I'll post pics tonight if I get a chance.

Ok here are some photos of where I put the rectifier. I put it where the rear fender was once attached to the frame. I used one of the bolts that was holding the fender on and just drilled a little bit bigger hole in the rectifier. You can use one bolt unless you can come up with a bracket of some sort and use both but I tightened it down well and it works great.

And for the solenoid.... well I just zip tied it to the frame right under the seat. My tail lights will be hiding it anyway...

So with no rear fender, is stuff that is picked up off the road going to hurt the rectifier there??  Water, dirt, road oils, etc...

Naaa it shouldn't, it's solid. I don't think anything would hurt it.

I removed my airbox from my bike and went with a cone filter... Since I had extra space left, I put the rectifier on the back side of the battery box.

I'm debating what to do with the box now though, so I've got to relocate it again. Not sure how I'll move it yet. I need to figure out my fender first.
