great looking bike! ive been wanting to go hardtail, how does it ride now?

are those shocks "Snap-on's"?

@ relic624k:  It rides a little differently.  You feel the bumps in the road more and have to be a little more careful about accelerating in the turns for fear of the back tire jumping out from under you.  I run my rear tire a little under-inflated to help compensate for the loss of shocks and plan on putting a spring seat on.  

@ PerrydaSavage: No it is mounted where the battery box and air box used to be.  The white wall tires were probably the biggest pain to figure out.  Since I could not find a whitewall in the standard size for a savage for the rear tire, I had to go up a size and that caused me to have to do some frame modifications, forced me to hardtail and take off the rear fender.  It was worth it though.  

@ SimonTuffGuy:  I will see about getting more pictures.  Basically, we ripped out the old battery box and air filter box and fabricated a plate up out of sheet metal to cover the area in between the frame that was left open by the removal.  The battery sunk right back in between the frame rails and sits just in front of the rear tire.  We lined it with some foam to reduce vibrations as well.  The black "retainer" you see is actually a cover off of a stock radio out of a Subaru.  It acts as a tension brace to hold the battery in place.  It is such a tight fit that no straps are required and the battery isn't bolted in place at all.  It just sits there and doesn't move.  

@ JohnBoy:  Not snap ons no....  But they are wrenches.  Snap ons are way too expensive to use.  I built this bike as cheap as possible.  I think in total I am out $1000 for the bike and maybe $400 in parts and materials, including new tires and front forks (they were bent when I bought the bike).
