Interesting ?
Hardly,.........top speed can have so many variables and conditions, I see no point in this poll.

Routy, as creator of this poll I respectivefully disagree. The poll has run its course. It's confirmed what I suspected -- even those who ride a so-called 'geezer bike' (see the age distribution poll) are risk-takers. Three-quarters (76%) of the 52 respondents have explored the top-speed capacity. Also those who modify the intake and/or exhaust are not reporting significantly higher top speeds. Mods look to be good for another 10 mph.

+1 on only picking up 10-15 mph in ready top end speed using lots & lots of mods.

What complicates things if you get a slight downhill and lots of room you CAN wring out all that "slow increase in speed" that the stock bike is capable of doing, which can take you over 90 on a stock bike.

Run a stock bike full out against a modded bike and the modded bike simply gets there faster.   And believe it or not, that extra little bit of top end translates into "he's gone and we never saw him again".

And I have seen a string of stockish Savage bikes pulling 70 plus mph on mountain roads (with a Yamaha 250 hanging right in there with them).

Then I left them ....

Threw mine around a bit yesterday. It's running really good, weather was perfect and the roads were fairly level. I weigh 225 and am 5'11". The thing gets up to the 70-80 range pretty quick but the anchor seems to fall at 80. If I lay down I can almost touch the 85 mark.

You can put a sleeve in the intake manifold it will help low end and hurt the top end.

Lupo, I notice you don't have a windshield. Now I don't have a wind tunnel, but I believe the 650 runs faster with a windshield to clean up the stream around the rider. When I got mine in stock form with 7400 miles on it, I took it up to 95-97 indicated with no problem. I wasn't used to the engine and didn't like the sound of high rpms, so I backed off. Now it's just something to tease me. I know it will do 100, but I'll never take her that far. Got up to 90 about a month ago. Some of you guys with lots of time and curiosity might want to try with and without windshield. I'm happy to stay around 80-90 for short bursts just to  get that "second look" from cagers who don't take me seriously. I have adjusted the carb and put on HD muff, so I have good acceleration from 50-75 where I need it without down shifting. My experience FWIW. Wink And I weigh 195 this week.

Well, it seems like those who mod their carb + exhaust never drive slowly...

Stock 2009 w/a windscreen.  Weigh 210 pounds, have had it brushing just short of the 100 line (98?) on the speedometer briefly a couple times, but the vibrations at that speed (both my lips - 3/4 helmet - and the bike) make it hard to tell...other times it seems to wind out around 85...not sure what the variables are that make the top end so much different but its never the same stretch of road or weather conditions (other than dry and not too windy)....

The fastest my Savage has gone while I owned it was 75mph in the back of a truck. Then about 1mph as I rolled it into the garage.
