Help - No Power - No Start
09/06/10 at 16:00:56

Tried to take the bike out for a ride today but after trying to start it everything went dead. Nothing. No green light nothing. Played with the key a few times and the green light did come on so I tried to start it again everything went dead agin.  I charged the battery with a Jr Tender until fully charged and no help. I removed the battery, checked the terminals and everything looked ok.  I then checked the two fuses and they were ok. Seems like a short, bad ignition switch or bad starter but not sure how to tell which.  Any suggestions for a testing sequence? Any wiring diagrams available? All suggestions welcome!
Thanks Undecided

yea,

this happened to me. when I put the key in the safety position the rear light did turn on, letting me know I had charge in the battery. otherwise, the entire bike was dead.

took the seat off with my leatherman. directly under the seat, one of the wire blocks, the large green one on my 97, was slightly pulled apart. plugged it back together, lights came back on and started right up.

hope your problem is as simple as this

Something like that !
I always start w/ checking both ends of both battery cables, and then right on down the line. The ground wires/ frame connections can sure get ya.
