Battery

I put a new big crank battery in this spring. Today when I parked my bike I accidentally left the key on with the motor off for ten minutes . I recharged it and it's ok . Does this do any permanent damage to the battery ? Thanks!

It didn't go dead, but took an hour to reach full charge with deltran battery charger jr.

leaving the ignition on while parked is known to deplete the ions in the air in your tires, causing reduced mpg.  best to change out the air completely.

why wait?

Just left the key on, such as stop at the store, dash in for a few things, about 10 minutes and walk noticing headlight is on?  (good thing no one what to steal one!)  That's not a problem, just fire it up.

If it needed to be charged, that is a problem.

I didn't think to ask before, but do you routinely use the engine stop switch to stop the engine? I think you would be better advised to never use that engine stop switch unless you need it, such as if the throttle were to stick open. Always use the key for engine shutdown, then remove the key and take it with you. That way you can't accidently discharge the battery (unless you do as I did once, and leave it in PARK).

According those in the know, up to a 50% discharge doesn't hurt a battery. Beyond that can slowly take its toll.
Sounds like you were more like 25% discharged.
