my bike runs great
09/01/10 at 14:16:04

there seems to be a lot of posts on here about guys having trouble tuning, popping, ect, ect, ect...
I just wanted to say that my bike runs great! I have a BCB drag pipe (mild baffle), a K&N drop-in, #52.5 pilot w/bleed holes, and a 150 main. My mix screw is out about 3 turns or so and my idle is kind of low but smooth. I rarely have pops on shifting, rarely a light poof on shutdown, and no surging on any circuit. I don't need to use the choke at all and the beast is ready for the highway as soon as I leave the neighborhood. Basically a great ride!!
Just thought I'd share that with you guys...

You're almost at 4,000ft elevation, that's why it works so good with a stock size pilot, K&N and a modified exhaust. I am at about 750ft, and I run stock air filter, same pilot as yours and removed baffle from stock exhaust. But I run a 145 stock main. Mine runs fairly good with that setup.

Mine did that too, when I got the 52.5 with bleed holes.

I'm pretty stock too, but up two jets from stock on the hi speed jet and it made a lot of difference in power.800 ft up from sea level.

Bettie has been running great too.

I had been having some problems with poor performance, stumbling, and hard starting.  Then I filled up with some mid grade gas and got improvement.
Apparently the regular gas I had been running had enough alcohol to cause a loss in power.

anyone else notice that

I gots me  a success story.

The Silver Surfer is a 2002 that only shows the world a Hurley muffler mod as visible changes.   It does have a few internal mods though.

It runs great.   Doesn't backfire, runs smooth.   Eats Hurleys and sports cars alive while hauling around a 150 pound weight penalty (me).

Fastest Savage on the East Coast .... as proven over the last 2 East Coast Mountain runs anyway.

(Rex could beat me I do suspect, but that ain't happened yet .... )

RTC, you and I have almost identical setups-

'06 2/3 spacer, 52.5 pilot w/ bleed holes, 150 main, dyna power pipe (pretty open), K&N drop in filter, 2 1/4 turns on the air mix.

My bike runs absolutely GREAT! Choke her out just to get it running and then immediately push the choke back in. Ready to ride after about 30-40 seconds of warmup...no surging, pulls great in the lower gears, plenty fast on the high end (maybe 85...then I chicken out).

I put a raptor petcock in cuz it was having cold weather symptoms (stumbling, would die at lights) and haven't had a lick of trouble since.

I think I pretty much got her where I want her.
P.S. elevation- 5280ft  Cool

I have the exact same setup, except I have the 145 stock main and stock air filter. The exhaust should be similar with my stock one being debaffled. It runs great too, except gunshots on decel when rpms get down to about 3,000. Not below, and not above. Only around 3,000rpm, and I can avoid them gunshots with when I get close t0 3,000rpm I give it a tad of gas and it won't do it then. I once got rid of the gunshots before with a 55 pilot with holes, but then it smoked like a Diesel and ran like crap.

sounds like the magic setup. i too have the raptor and experienced cold weather surging before i replaced it. i have only had this setup since it has been hot here so we"ll see what happens when it gets cold
