there have been a few burnt pistons mentioned and I think we've all assumed that it was due to lean carburation.  Well the epa are baseturds, but there is a little referred to oil seal on the back side of the clutch cover.  That little son of a gun puts its lips around the crankshaft and blows oil over to the stator and up to the piston.  The only thing said about it is to check for wear and damage.  Well unless you got a new one sitting around, how the heck are you supposed to check for wear?

Ive looked at that thing. Its instaled in a most haphazard manner. Its not squared to the end of the shaft at all. Since Im in there @ 20,000 miles, I think Ill just slap a fesh one in there.

Yea... but it's bathed in oil on both sides, splash on one side, pressure on the other.  Not much wear there.

Unless you don't take care to change oil regularly......

For those of you that have never seen the inside of your clutch cover... for shame on you.  That little rubber seal that's marked to crankshaft.
