12 volt Power for Cigar Lighter Socket ?
08/09/10 at 07:54:36

Can I pick up 12v power inside the headlight....enough for a GPS ?

Is there 12v power in there besides wire powering the headlite ?

Thanks

I'd rather use other than headlite so the GPS don't shut down every time I hit the starter. I'll see what I can find.

GPS car adapter only takes 2-3 watts so you can use any 12v source wire, headlight is probably OK.  Be sure the GPS wire is fused whether through the headlight or through its own supply (like 1 amp) .

I wired mine straight off the battery with a 3a inline fuse. I used an RV 12v power socketattached to the handle barss It's weather proof. Been thru rain and hail storms with no problems. Powered a Garmin GPS with it.

Good advice Thumperclone. I have forgotten and left the gps on overnite. Thankfully it didn't drain the battery, but you just never know.

Well, I quit that job as soon as I realized that I had the headlite adjustment all messed up by turning the wrong screws. Seems like sombody would have said something ! Angry Grin

But I'll get back into it tomorrow.
