Ordered a new rear tire this a.m.
07/28/10 at 09:43:34

Well, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new rear tire.  Called a few stealerships, and decided on a local bike shop (ex Indian motorcycle dealer), closer to my house than the Suzuki shop.  He ordered me a Dunlop D404  140/90.

Please tell me that I'm gonna be happy with this tire....     Undecided

Yea, bill, I actually liked the looks of the Pirelli, but since you recommend it, I stayed away from it...    Grin
Ha ha I'm teasing you.  Actually he checked several brands, but Pirelli wasn't one of them, sorry.

That OK just be careful when your riding on that Dunlop. No sharp corners, never in the rain.

Bill are you saying the Dunlop won't hold the corner and will slide in the rain?  Huh

i know their are huge differences between different tires but lets face it any major tire company isnt going to put out a tire that is unsafe to ride on.  otherwise they would never be in business.  a brand new tire from a decent company will be fine regardless, the main issue is longevity.  as long as you got good tread you can trust the rubber.  maybe im being naive but thats my opinion.

A new tire will be great when you first put it on. After a few hundred miles you will really notice the difference.

I use the 66 Route Pirelli on front and back and very happy with them.

Hey, Serowbot is riding with one and gives it good reviews. Hard to beat a testimonial of a product user and avid savage lover Smiley

Tires are the most important parts on a bike imo, outside of the thing that sits on the seat.

Do these replacements get better milage ? I just turned 5,000 mi, and I don't see the rear getting to 6,000 safely. Seems kinda terrible mileage for todays tires.

I've got just over 2,000 miles on mine  so far and they don't show much, if any, wear at all.

I ride daily in town and on the slab, and just long rides out in the country.
As for conditions I ride in rain, shine, even some pretty cold weather. The Savage is my ride. Cool

I think I got 12k or 14k out of my first Dunlop...

Piglet,... be careful the 25 miles or so... new tires are very slippery until you wear off the mold release coating... Wink...

My OEM IRCs have just over 4000 and are still in really good shape. I run Dunlop 404s on my 900 Vulcan and think they are great they handle well wet or dry. Was thinking of getting a set for the S40 when the IRC do go, If your 140-90s work as well as my 180-70 you'll like em just fine.

REMEMBER, It'll have mold release agent on  it & will be a bit slimier than after a couple hundred miles. Dont go trying it too hard in corners just cuz ya got new runner, okay?

I alway rough up new tires with a belt sander,Let the sander spin the tire.I clean them with whitewall cleaner first.
