What I use for belt squeak - every month or so, on my pinkie finger I put a small dab of Harley-Davidson Poly Oil (2 oz. tube runs about 4 bucks)... I apply it to the edge of the belt that's rubbing/squeaking, just along a couple inches of the belt.  As the belt turns it spreads out the goo and quiets the squeak.

If you are getting a little complacent, maybe a little sleepy, which you should never do on two wheels, the Suzy will give you a little nudge with that ka-POW! It's just clearing its throat ... reminding you that you are piloting a motorcycle. All the one-lungers do it and have for years. I bought my 2006 S40 a month ago, returning to a bike after 30 years. First time it backfired under my butt, I thought I was going to have to wring out my pants. I laughed for the next quarter mile. The bang brought back some good memories.

The noise doesn't bother me but someone somewhere said when that happened his bike "blew a gasket" which sounded like something you wouldn't want to happen.  Being all new to this and not real knowledgeable about how any engine works I wanted to know if it was a real problem or just an annoyance for some people.
