coca cola carb cleaner
07/16/10 at 14:14:53

Well a friend of mine has suggested that i save my money and soak my carbs in fizzy cola over night (when i decide to clean them that is). Then in the morning wash the cola off quick smart before it starts to dry on it.
I've seen what coke can do to paint work but that was over a long period of time, anyway has anyone tried and tested this method ? If so were the results satisfactory?

Putting sugar in a gas tank is a famous way that juvenile delinquent's would use to damage someone's engine they didn't like...

Cola in a carb would seem much the same...  You say this guy is a friend?...

How much are saving using a dollars worth of coke instead of a dollars worth of carb cleaner?...

PS,.. Snopes says this is a myth..."Sugar in the gas tank"...
but,... I still wouldn't do it...

Coke DOES loosen the hard deposits from most everything,
I've tried it, works well on old coins, spots, stains, dried blood,
battery poles and other deposity things but with a carb I would
just use seafoam. coke is nasty sh1t, just like mustard or vinegar.

With a really dirty carb I would use hard solvents and just buy
a new set of rubber o-rings.

With a petrified carb however I would use ultrasonic cleaning
(like for jewelry), it's THE best.

I would imagine the phosphoric acid is what is doing the cleaning.
diet coke would eliminate the sugar issue.

Ospho is available at Kelly-Moore. Phosphoric acid turns iron oxide into iron phosphate, so, its no longer rust. Will it clean stuff  up? I dunno,
Diet drinks need an industrial application, since they should never be consumed.
