Curious,
do you expect to be any worthwhile temp difference between oils, except between regular ond synthetic ?

And can your temps mean anything w/o the ambient temp along w/ it?

Wall is ambient (his IR laser temp gun doesn't measure air)

I think he is baselining his existing oil, not knowing what is going to show or not show as significant when he changes oils.

Check me on this, unless you wick well over 70 mph, you get no significant oil consumption at all with T6?

The delta values between the wall (ambient) and the filter temp (general oil temperature) and the head (maximum engine temperature) should be of some informational significance and should be able to be taken at any reasonable temperature range and can be compared between the oils and might tell us something as long as the test method remains consistent.

Outside temp is reflected in "wall"
(as outside temp goes up wall goes up)

If you change your test method, are you going to retake all your baseline data points?

so to piece this together, are you looking for the Oil that results in the lowest engine temp, ie the least amount burned off?  And is Rotella your benchmark since its your preferred brand of Oil?

I think the idea of measuring the oil temperature above ambient is a good one. I think I would try to measure ambient somewhere on the bike, such as the steering head behind the triple tree instead of a wall. That way I could measure the differences wherever I was instead of only at home. For that matter, an ordinary thermometer attached to the bike somewhere could be used as a reference.
