Ariel,... the wd40 was intended to be used as a mild starting fluid...

Sorry for steering you wrong here,... but I just read that wd40 has changed it's formulation...  It now uses CO2 as a propellant and won't work very well as a starting fluid any more...
I guess you'd do best to buy a can of starting fluid... Look for one that says it includes a lubricant in it....

Again sorry...

Yeah, no problem.  Good to know what I'm looking for.

In other news, I got an 18mm spark plug socket that wasn't deep well.  It proved that an 18mm would probably fit, but now I'm having trouble finding an 18mm deep well.  Decided I should just order the proper thing online but I haven't really been able to find one.  Anyone got any links to what I need?

Why don't you go to a Suzuki dealer and get one.

Isn't this just a standard socket?  Don't I need one particular for spark plugs?

any socket of the correct size will do.
although it's nice to have the insert, that's all it is an insert.

I don't have an insert in the socket I use for the plug.

Not needed, really, since the plug is not recessed much, unlike in some other engines.

Alright, well.  Progress.  I pulled my spark plug and found it rather half-covered in black stuff.  Likely carbon fouled.  When I hooked it up to the lead and tried to test, I got a weak spark.  So, I whipped out my voltmeter to test the battery and found it at a comfortable 12.5 V.

Does this mean I just need to get a new spark plug?  Should I try to check the wiring first, or is the spark plug just a way more likely culprit?

Slap a plug in it, get it running, if it craps out soon, then get another plug & look for the problem.

Well.  There's no air filter, apparently. (WTF?)

I managed to get it going with the starter fluid.  It didn't stay going, revved a bit and died, which is maybe the problem I was having before I thought I solved with the petcock.

I realized I took it out when I got a new one and just never put the new one in.  Probably hasn't had more than 10 miles on it since.  But it's been about a six months that there just hasn't been an air filter in it.

MMkay, no harm done then, unless those 10 miles were n a sand storm.

Out of curiosity, how many would it take before there was harm?

Erm, but more immediately.  If the starter fluid works, does that rule certain things out / point to something?
