While I won't exactly disagree, it has always amazed me how good they really can be,.....completely depending on the quality of the connecter, the quality of the crimping tool, and the experience and care that is put into doing a good positive crimp.
The last few years, I have been using that liquid tape (WM) over the connector, which IMO makes it a very corrosion proof, long lasting, positive connection.

I use heat shrink tubes over my crimp connections. Keeps then nice & dry and corrosion free.
