Just returned from 700 mile over night trip with my bike.  I was really happy with it but it seems not everyone thinks of an S40 as a "real" bike.  Anyone had that problem?  It keeps good speed, the seat is very comfortable for me, good gas mileage - about 70 and overall I felt very comfortable on it.

If you're happy with it I'd stuff whatever anyone else has to say about it!

I have a hard time using raw numbers of people saying something is good or bad or right or wrong to lean on & say that since all those people agree w/ me, I must therefore be right. Once upon a time, everyone KNEW the Earth was the center of everything & they were all wrong. Then, theres the hundreds of millions of flies out there, eating away on cow patties. They cant all be wrong, can they? Should I join in? ( J/K, thats gross!)
Anyway, if you believe in it & youre happy w/ it, then by all means, have fun widditt! & even if there is not one person who agrees, it dont matter, cuz this is your life & when its over, YOU are the one checking out, not them, so live yours while it is is yours, cuz when its your turn to die, no one else will do That for ya, so we cant let others live our lives for us.

I've had similar comments recently about my S40 (being too small, not a REAL bike,wimpy, etc)  but I think the people saying it are just UNeducated about how great the S40 really is. Their loss.

As a competitive revolver shooter I get similar grief and comments from those speedy pistol shooters with fancy tricked out parts  - I'm not shooting what they think is the best gun for racing. TOOO BAD! I'm having fun with a big grin on my face and usually my score is more accurate with a sixgun than their go fast peashooter. There aren't as many revolver shooters at a match, but we're having the most fun.

Look @ those skid marks he laid down just before that really ugly high side get off started. That guy is a split second from some serious punishment.

Expensive advertising can get someone that believes the hype to buy an expensive MC.

I've been riding 20 years and my 05 S40 is one of the best bikes I've owned. I like it better than my 72 Bonneville.

Funny you mention that.  When I was getting ready to leave work this morning, one of my co-workers was checking out my C50, and asked if it was a Harley.  The Boulevard badge is right on the tank in front of him!  In his defence, I don't think he's much of a "bike guy".  Oh well, nobody's perfect!

- yup, the savage is kinda on the low side
but a lot of tall ppl do a seat and/or peg
extension mod to fix this, I personally sit
on the passenger seat of my little yamaha.

- 16k miles? that bike still has a lot of miles left in it,
and if it goes up to 60mph there is nothing really
wrong with it (try re-adjusting your valves), next
time you need a new rear tire get a taller one, that
should give you a few more mph, and you should
regularly check/replace your general wiring in any
"old" bike to save yourself trouble down the road.

- The "new" 5gear box is NOT better than the 4gear, just shorter
gears but top end is pretty much the same, we all still wish it had
a 6th gear. And to get it up to 100mph you usually need a carb-kit
and a chain-conversion kit; my old savage with a larger main jet
and 140/90 oversize rear wheel went 90mph but not a mile more.

P.S. Since winters here are just as bad as in Wisconsin,
I had to buy a car so I'm stuck right now with a 125cc
and I would seriously kill for any old savage, oh well
