Warning sticker under Speedometer...
06/26/10 at 20:00:16

Took the bike out for an all day ride - what a joy.

There is a "Warning" sticker under the speedometer - Any suggestions what I can use to remove this sticker that won't wreck the paint?
We're thinking Hoppes No. 9....but will that damage the paintjob?

Thanks in advance!

Goof Off at many hardware stores.  Peel the sticker and then use GO to get the residue.

Peel the sticker and cover the remaining crud with peanut butter. Let it soak a couple minutes and wipe it off.

Warm it up w/ a hair dryer, and it will come off easy. But hope the paint has not faded much, or you mite wished you'd left it on.

Crunchy just might scratch. I'd stay with creamy.

I had good success with gasoline and a soft plastic scraper. Be gentle and take your time.
A new bike should have no issues with paint fading.

I always use peanut butter on removed sticker residue. Learned it from my grandmother when i was 6 or so. I geuss the oils in the PB do something. I dont really know why it works but it works. And if for some reason it doesnt the only side effect is a tasty smelling tank.

I used Goof Off for de-stickering the entire bike. Works great and no damage to the surface. I haven't tried it in my hair though.    Grin

When I worked in body shops, the painters would use heat guns to pull decals off. Up to & including the wood grain panels on ford station wagon doors, heat will soften the adhesive, making it much easier to remove. If nothing else, park it in the sun a while, then peel. If you have one on the belt guard, maybe start there, get some practice b4 hitting a painted area.

The hair dryer or heat gun definitely makes it easier to peel them off.  As far as residue, I used one of the alchol wipes like they put in first aid kits.  I figure, if it's ok on a cut, it shouldn't mess the paint up, and so far it looks ok. Smiley

I used a combo - started with the peanut butter to loosen the sticker - it came up fairly easily with some fingernail assistance. I couldn't try the hairdryer trick, because I have curly hair and have never owned a hairdryer.

There was a bit of residue sticky left and the Hoppes 9 quickly took off the rest of it, and it's all shiny, no fade, perfect as if it were never on there.

Thanks for all the advice. Without the forum I'd be staring at WARNING every time I start the bike. ugh.
